And why a villa makes it even better.
Family holidays are rarely about “doing it all.” They’re about doing a few things well, without turning every day into a spreadsheet of snacks, naps, and negotiations, while someone is crying because their sandwich is cut wrong. (It was the same sandwich. We all know it.)
The Algarve is one of the few places in Europe that genuinely cooperates with that mission. Here’s why.
1 — Because the beach choice is ridiculous (in the best, most practical way)
In 2025, the Algarve flies 91 Blue Flags, spread across 85 beaches (plus marinas and eco-tourism vessels). The Blue Flag programme is tied to criteria like water quality, safety, services, and environmental management. Exactly the stuff that matters when you’re travelling with kids and your standards suddenly become: clean water, safe access, a bathroom, and somewhere to rinse sand off small humans.
2 — Because the weather does a lot of the heavy lifting
Faro’s official climate normals (1991–2020) put the average daily temperature around 24.5–24.6°C in July/August, with average daily maximums around 29°C. January stays mild, with an average daily maximum of around 16°C. Translation: more outdoor time, fewer “what do we do now?” moments, and far fewer holidays spent indoors paying €6 for a sad coffee just to have a roof.
3 — Because villa life is basically a family cheat code
Hotels can be great. But families need systems (more than just a bed): a kitchen for the snack economy, space for different sleep schedules, and somewhere kids can exist loudly. Not to brag about it, but a BOAZ-style villa stay gives you that soft, priceless luxury. Some room to breathe. Plus the freedom to have breakfast at 07:12, lunch at 15:40, and dinner at “when the small one agrees to life.”

4 — Because getting here is straightforward, and that matters
Faro Airport is the Algarve’s front door, and it publishes a long list of routes and destinations, meaning plenty of direct options depending on season and departure city. More time actually in the Algarve. And fewer opportunities for the small things to unravel the start of the trip.
5 — Because nature here is cinematic, but not “extreme.”
Ria Formosa is the Algarve’s softer kind of wow: islands, lagoon channels, birdlife, boat trips, beautiful, accessible, and not the kind of day out that requires hiking boots and a personality change. It’s also officially one of Portugal’s 7 Natural Wonders. If you want an extra touch, Ponta da Piedade delivers: cliff-top boardwalks and sea-carved grottoes. All the drama with none of the expedition.
6 — Because sometimes the best culture is a water park
There are days when you want cobblestone towns and seafood lunches. And there are days when you want guaranteed joy delivered via slides. Slide & Splash (Lagoa) is one of the region’s big family staples, an easy “everyone wins” day.

7 — Because the Algarve gives you a solid Plan B (that often becomes Plan A)
Aquashow, mostly known for being an outdoor water park, also has an indoor park, which is a genuinely useful wildcard for shoulder season, cooler days, or “we need something different today” energy. It saves a holiday afternoon when the beach plan collapses under the weight of wind and moods.
8 — Because peace of mind is part of the holiday
Portugal ranks 7th on the Global Peace Index 2024. No destination is a bubble, obviously, but it’s a real, data-backed reason many families feel comfortable travelling here. And comfort matters. It’s what turns “trip” into “holiday.”
A BOAZ Rentals stay is also how you keep the Algarve feeling effortless: pool time when you want it, quiet when you need it, and a home base where kids can recharge without having to keep inventing ways to fill the gaps between meals and naps.
